Last night at around 7:30 my mom came over for help with her phone/computer before we were supposed to be heading to my aunt's house for dinner. By 7:32 the first round of sirens began wailing and we went into my apartment's safe room (the girl's bedroom). All clear by 7:55 and so we make our way across the street to my aunt's house for Shabbat dinner. But by 8:04 another warning was sent instructing us to stay near a shelter. So we all came back to my house for another stint in the safe room. Aunt Vivian, Uncle Bruce, mom Rachel, and my cousins Oren and Chen, their dog Koda and my dog Betty. By 8:15 we realized we had jumped the gun and went back across the street to have dinner like we planned at my aunt's house.
Shabbat dinner was delicious, and just as we were winding down and considering dessert, 9:02 a warning to get into safe rooms was sent by homefront command. So we took the cake and across the street we went, back into the safe room. By 9:11, sirens were wailing, and rumblings and booms could be felt even inside the safe room.
Around 9:45 we decided to open the doors and let the dogs get out and get some fresh air. While standing outside in the fresh nighttime air, chatting with my cousin Chen, we notice bright oranges flashes of light coming from the West. Interceptors. We must have watched about 15 flying across an eerily quiet night sky. So we went back inside to wait. No sirens.. just booms.
By 10:30 we all decided we had enough and my extended family starting making their way back across the street to their home. My mom decided to spend the night and sleep in the safe room. By midnight we were sleeping.
But of course, 1:09 am and sirens start to wail once again. 1:03, 1:09, 1:11. Barrage from Iran #2 was being intercepted. By 1:30, I was back asleep.
At 2:13am, prime minister Netanyahu addressed that people of Iran in a video after Operation Rising Lion. He states that we are clearing the path for their freedom by targeting the Islamic regime's nuclear and missile threats and urging Iranians to seize this opportunity for liberation.
By 5:20, I was awoken again to a big pop, rumble and boom, but no sirens. So although woken up, I didn't run to the safe room.
The Houthis launched 3 ballistic missiles at us, while the Iranian government launched roughly 100 UAVs and another 150 ballistic missiles in one day of retaliatory strikes for taking out Iran's nuclear program.
It's the dawn of a new middle east.
