At 2:59 this morning, sirens wailed throughout Israel ripping through the darkness of the night. A special state of emergency was declared and everyone was supposed to make their way to safe spaces.
By 3:41 a secondary "emergency alert: extreme" was sent through homefront command warning of an imminent threat.
"What the f🤬ck is an imminent threat?" I wondered while getting fully dressed (including my gun and finding my glasses) in the middle of the night. I sat silently in the dark of the night in the girls' bedroom. The quiet was deafening. Nickoma and the girls are thankfully not home, but the quiet of waiting in the night was impossible to process.
By 5:30, my mom made her way over to my apartment so she could nap in our safe room. After seeing a beautiful sunrise, by 6:30 we each had fallen back to sleep.
At 8:30 I went to do a little shopping before Shabbat. The store was already sold out of chicken. Yup, you read that right... Chicken, and large bottled water packs. So I got my comfort food and some essentials. There were no more grocery carts, so only what I could carry in my arms before coming back home.
At 9:00 my mom decided to go back home, but by 9:30 the news was reporting that 100 suicide UAVs were on the way to Israel. So I called my mom and told her to come back over and together we waited.
Then, at 10:47 an update from homefront command came through saying that the need to stay need a protected space has been lifted. From what I'm gathering, when sirens rang in Aman, it was when the Jordanian army was shooting down UAVs over their airspace. The IAF was busy shooting down UAVs over Saudi airspace. Early reports seem to show that nothing crossed into Israeli airspace. A modern miracle.
It seems as though we launched an offensive strike on Iranian nuclear facilities and high ranking IRGC officials from within Iran. This deeply undercover Mossad mission was made public at 2:59 when the Israeli public was woken up by sirens.
Meanwhile the people of Iran are are posting on social media a hashtage thanking Israel.
