June 12, 2025 - Day 615 - Yair Yaakov z"l

Yair (Yaya) Yaakov, (59) father of three, was killed by gunfire inside his home at Kibbutz Nir Oz by Palestinian Islamic Jihad gunmen. He was trying to barricade the safe room door in his home during the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023 when he was murdered. Yaya was an auto shop worker in Kibbutz Alumim. He was a fun and loving man.

Yair's teenage sons, Or and Yagel, and partner, Meirav Tal, were abducted alive. His daughter Shir, was not home at the time of the attack. Or, Yagel, and Meirav were then released in November 2023, after 53 days, as part of a ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel.

The bodies of Thailandi national, Nattapong Pinta and another (currently unidentified) murdered male hostage were additionally recovered from the Khan Yunis area of Gaza and returned home to their families for proper burial.

There are now 53 hostages still being held by Hamas in Gaza, at least 20 of whom are believed to be alive.

Yaya's family can now lay their father to rest and begin the long and difficult mourning process.

All together, 47 people were killed from Kibbutz Nir Oz during the attack. Another 76 were abducted by the terrorists to Gaza. Currently, four hostages are presumed alive, and the bodies of five captives from the Kibbutz remain held in Gaza.

Terror groups are currently holding 53 hostages, including 52 of the 251 abducted by Hamas-led terrorists on October 7, 2023.

This includes the bodies of at least 31 confirmed dead by the IDF, and 20 are believed to be alive. There are grave concerns for the well-being of two others, Israeli officials have said. The body of another soldier killed in 2014, Lt. Hadar Goldin, is still being held by Hamas, and is counted amoung the 53 hostages currently in Gaza.
