February 20, 2025 - Day 503 - Oded Lifshitz

Oded Lifshitz (85) was a humanitarian, a retired journalist, and a founder of Kibbutz Nir Oz. He and his wife Yocheved (85) were peace activists who worked for an Israeli organization called "On the Way to Recovery", which helps aid Gazan citizens in need of medical care in getting transportation to Israeli hospitals across the border. Yocheved and Oded were kidnapped together on October 7.

While in captivity, Sinwar introduced himself to a group of hostages from Nir Oz in Hebrew, saying: “Hello, I am Yahya Sinwar. You are the most protected here. Nothing will happen to you.”

Yocheved stated that “Sinwar was with us three to four days after we arrived. I asked him how he is not ashamed to do such a thing to people who have supported peace all these years." “He didn’t answer,” she added. “He was silent.”

Yocheved was released in November of 2023. Oded remain a hostage.

Yocheved and Oded are prime examples of the type of people who were kidnapped and massacred on October 7, 2023.
Peace activists.
Humanitarians.
Oded was massacred by the very people he spent his life fighting to have peace with.

A father, grandfather, great grandfather murdered for no reason other than the fact he was Jewish.

May his memory be a blessing.
May Yocheved and their family be comforted among the mourners of Zion (Israel) and Yerushaliym (Jerusalem).
