6 hostages were murdered.
Thousands attended funerals across Israel.
A father who never met his newborn child.
A occupational therapist and breath work practicioner.
A son who never finished his travels.
Hundreds of thousands took to the streets and shut down the country on Monday.
The pain was palpable all the way from New York.
raw
gut wrenching
deep pain
sorrow
and anger.
So many people are looking for a reason. Meaning behind the pain.
So many, including myself, were so sure that Jon and Rachel's quiet dignity, and hard fought diplomatic battle so eloquently fought on the world stage would end in Hersh's release.
How could it not?
Gd is good right?
They are good.
Hersh was good.
The pain of not knowing or understanding... Why...
Feels insurmountable.
Irreconcilable.
So Israelis took to the streets demanding an end to the pain, death, and agony. It hurts so deeply that they're willing to forget that we are not the enemy...
Hamas is the enemy.
The ultimate evil. Their psychological manipulation can tear us apart from the inside out. It's trying and in real-time.
I believe that Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank's Palestinian Authority need an overhaul. A total rethinking of what peace and coexistence can look like. I believe that radical change and thinking outside of the box with fresh perspectives can only help us all live in peace.
But now is not the time to lose military ground. Our pain cannot drive our military decisions and we need to secure the Philadelphi corridor to ensure no more October 7ths ever happen again.
Then we can bring the Jons and Rachels of both sides of this conflict together to set a real path for peace.
Jon eulogized his son by quoting a message he received online about Hersh. "May his memory be a revolution."
A revolution of love, tolerance, and empathy in the name of the Polin-Goldberg family.
Rachel's painful eulogy asked her son for forgiveness for not succeeding in freeing him, but also praising Gd that he finally is free! We, the Jewish people should take heed to the family's mantra to help guide us forward.
Be strong.
Survive.
For a revolution is brewing.
Remember to direct your hate and anger towards Hamas for getting us all here in the first place.
