Day 307 - August 7, 2024 - 10 months

I've been out of Israel now for two weeks visiting family and friends while on summer break in New York.

Today marks 10 months of war.
10 months and 115 hostages remain in captivity in Gaza.
10 months of constant attacks by Hezbollah, occupying Lebanon.
10 months of attacks on the shipping industry by the Houthis, occupying Yemin.

The last few weeks have been peaked with...
A drone attack on the American embassy in Tel Aviv by the Houthis.
The assassination of Ismail Haneya in Tehran.
The murder of 12 Israeli-Druze children in Majdal Shams, northern Israel by Fouad Shukur, Hezbollah's military leader.
The assassination of Fouad Shukur in Lebanon.
Hindus being targets by Islamic extremism in India.
A Taylor Swift concert was shut down in Austria due to a terror threat by ISIS.

Yet here I sit waiting to hear news of the Islamic Republic occupying Iran's imminent attack on Israel.

There is antisemitism abroad for sure. I've seen at least one neighborhood shawarma shop littered with anti Israel rhetoric.

but there is also love for Israel here.

I'm still here for another two weeks and I think the thing that stands out to me the most is the ability in America to forget what is going on in the rest of the world. One can very easily go about their day here without thinking twice about Israel or really anyone else being targeted by terrorists in the world. Shopping, eating, amusement parks... There are endless ways to stay uninformed and ignorant about the wars happening around us.

This scares me the most. The apathy. The willingness (and ability) to turn ones head away and ignore hard truths plaguing the world. Where an Instagram or TikTok story can be more compelling and attention grabbing than real information.

The silent majority of moderates continue to enjoy their ivory towers, while the extremists of both the left and right are managing to "globalize the Intafada".

The world is on fire.
What are you going to do to help put it out?
