I am a mother.
I have two beautiful girls that I love more than I thought possible.
I cherish every footstep, giggle, and mischevous smile.
Every growth spurt, argument, spill, and cuddle is worth it.
I am a mother.
My heart breaks for Israeli mothers,
birthing alone while their partners are...,
raising kids alone while their partners are...,
sending off sons to war,
burying their bodies.
Painful reminders of the cost of war.
I am a mother.
My heart breaks for Gazan mothers,
trying to raise their children in tents,
trying to protect them and themselves,
burying bodies or pulling them from rubble.
Painful reminders of the cost of war.
I am a mother.
I worry about my children's psychological well being. But do I worry about my own?
I cover their ears and shelter their bodies with my own when siren wail.
I shudder to think of what other mothers have had to endure these past 7 months
...at least I have a roof over my head.
I am a mother.
I want safety and peace for my children.
I want their lives to be valued and valuable.
I want them to grow up in a world filled with love and acceptance.
This mother's day I think about mothers facing all sorts of insurmountable obstacles daily and I pray for the safety and well-being of my girls and all of the children affected by war.

"According to data released by Israel National Council for the Child, 38 children were [murdered] in Israel on October 7 during the Hamas-led terrorist onslaught.
(Three of those children were under the age of three, and four were aged 3-6.)
In addition, 42 children were abducted to the Gaza Strip by Hamas and other terrorist organizations.
Two of the children kidnapped on October 7 — Kfir and Ariel Bibas — remain in Gaza.
Fifteen of the children who were held hostage in Gaza still have a parent in captivity in the Strip.
In addition, 20 children were orphaned and 96 lost one parent, the organization says."
