Day 1 - October 7, 2023 - We're at War With Hamas

We woke up this Shabbat morning to the news that there was a barrage of rockets being hurled at Israel from Hamas in Gaza.

My own sister in Jerusalem was awoken by red alert sirens telling her that rockets are on the way.

Let's pause and say thank you for the Iron Dome or who knows what state we would be in noSo this past week was Sukkot. The holiday draws masses of people to Jerusalem and specifically the Temple Mount where the AlAqsa Mosque stands. Radicalized Islamists barricaded themselves inside the Mosque with fireworks, bombs, and rocks and creating a riot where no one could enter any of the holy complex. IDF removed those desecrating the mosque and reopened the site to all worshipers. (Very very short summary of a very very complex issue.)

Hamas leaders took this as aggression and have responded with a call to arms by all Palestinians living in Israel to attack and kill by any means.

So far there have been...
- thousands of rockets
- a shooting at a rave in the desert
- a shoot out between a Jewish mayor defending his town and Hamas radicals (the mayor was gunned down)
- a police station near Gaza in Sedrot was taken over by Hamas for several hours this morning before IDF went in and took it back
- kidnappings of civilians (including women and children)

It's been 50 years since the Yom Kippur war. A war in which Israel was attacked on its holiest day on 3 fronts by neighboring countries.
Whatta anniversary.
Be smart.
Stay safe.
Am Yisrael Chai.
