Day 50 - November 25, 2023 - Ceasefire for Hostages

So Israel has agreed to a ceasefire with Hamas. In this negotiation not only are we ceasing to fire, but we are also releasing 150 Palestinian prisoners (that have stabbed, thrown rocks, or otherwise violently attacked Israelis). Some are technically children, but all have committed real and aggressive crimes against the Jewish people.

We, in return, will get 50 out of our 240 hostages back. The first 13 were released last night and are back in their family's arms. Assuming things go well, more hostages could potentially be released to lengthen the ceasefire.

I don't understand war.
I don't understand this deal.
I don't understand the blood price we have to pay for being Jewish.
3 Palestinian terrorists for 1 innocent civilian.
3 people who committed violent and deliberate crimes.
For 1 person who was sleeping in the bed on a Saturday morning (or dancing as the sun came up at a festival).
Every person being held hostage is a whole world within itself.

Do I pray for peace? Of course.
Do I want peace? Undoubtedly.
Do I believe that peace is possible with Hamas? Hard no.

Despite all of this... after two Thanksgiving dinners, I find myself inclined to say what I'm thankful for.
I am thankful for the glimmers of kindness and goodness trying to burst their way out of the darkness.
I'm thankful for my family and friends, my loved ones.
I'm grateful that my family is whole and living under the same roof.
I'm thankful for the roof over my head and my family sleeping peacefully this Shabbat (Saturday) morning as the sun starts to come up.
I'm grateful for the hostages that have come home so far.

and

I am hopeful we will remain focused and resilient until
EVERY
SINGLE
ONE
comes home.
Praying for better days ahead.
Am Yisrael Chai 🇮🇱
