Day 6 - October 12, 2023 - Explaining to my 4 Year Old What "WAR" is.

This morning Siikwan and I had another heart to heart. I apologized for being on my phone so much this week and decided to try to tell her why.

I explained to my sweet little girl what the word "war" means. I explained to her that some people have so much hate in their hearts that it's poisoned their thinking. She asked if they needed a hug. I said they probably weren't taught to love everyone and therefore probably didn't get hugged very often. But I also said it wasn't our job to hug them. It was our job to be smart and safe.

I told her that there are people right now keeping us safe in Tekoa. Soldiers. (Another new word she learned today). I showed her pictures of local forces and asked if she'd like to go meet some soldiers that are protecting us today.

So my sweet girl, who is a week from turning 5, drew a picture of herself and a soldier. We went to the local shop and I gave her a shopping bag. I told her to fill it with whatever she wanted to give the soldiers. So she filled a bag with snacks, treats, a toy, and some coffee. It was too heavy to carry herself.
We brought the bag to the soldier's station and found two nice men to talk to Siikwan and accept her treats. They were absolute gems.

On top of the card and treats...
Siikwan had also folded a small sparkly rhinestone into a post-it without me knowing. She gave it to the soldier next to her and he put it in his pocket near his heart and told her he would keep it for good luck. Siikwan beamed.

I felt a tiny bit lighter and brighter after our conversation and dropping off gifts today..
She's now eating ice cream for breakfast and watching Netflix.

Am Yisrael Chai.
