Day 4 - October 10, 2023 - Jets Roaring Overhead

Jets overhead roaring through the air.

It was so loud this morning that I took the girls into the shelter for a while.

Then Siikwan and I had a conversation about bad guys that want to hurt us because we're Jewish.

My 4 year old.

I had to have that conversation with my 4 year old and explain to her why mommy got scared.

Just wrap your head around that... with my 4 year old.

We talked about what to do if a siren sounds and what to do if we see actual bad guys with our own eyes. We talked about how to listen to mommy and how to find good hiding places. We talked about how fast she can run and how she shouldn't wait for anyone. If mommy says run and hide... you run faster and hide better than any kid has ever run or hidden before.

She understands.
But she doesn't understand.
I'm grateful for both her understanding and her inability to understand.

I'm grateful for Loowan's obliviousness and that as she tries to get into everything around the house, I have to put my phone down and actually watch her explore and learn.
Loowan makes sure I'm "present".

I pray that what I heard was fighter jets heading to Gaza to level Hamas and the Gaza strip to dust.

(Thankfully still no sirens here.)

I pray you never have to have the same conversations with your children that I've had to have.

I pray you never have to carefully pick each and every word so as not to traumatize, but still instill importance and seriousness ... to a child.

Hug your children tight.

Do not mince words and do not hold back your condemnation of Jews being slaughtered.

Am Yisrael Chai
